International Center for Science and
Engineering Programs (ICSEP)

Welcome to the homepage of Waseda University’s International Center for Science and Engineering Programs (ICSEP). The Center’s main mission is to run the International Program in Science and Engineering (IPSE), which consists of undergraduate and graduate programs in the Faculty of Science and Engineering that are conducted entirely in English. The Center and Program were created in July 2010 as part of the “Global 30” initiative, an initiative by the Japanese Government’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) that aims to increase the number of international students studying at universities in Japan to 300,000.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is the largest faculty in Waseda University. It consists of 3 undergraduate schools, which together welcome more than 1,800 new students each year, and 6 graduate schools, which together welcome more than 1,600 new students each year. There are 17 academic departments that offer courses and conduct research ranging across theoretical, experimental, and applied areas of science and engineering. The faculty members belonging to ICSEP deliver the first year core undergraduate courses and support the departments by offering more specialized undergraduate and graduate courses. The ICSEP faculty itself is very international. Currently, we have members from Bulgaria, China, Germany, Italy, Kenya, Malaysia, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In addition to their international character, the faculty shares a commitment to offering its students a high-quality education.
